Four Hellenistic chamber tombs on Via dei Cristallini, twelve metres below street level, with 4th-century BC Greek frescoes and Roman additions. The visit lasts 45 minutes and includes a video with a virtual reconstruction. You descend via stairs and the lighting is dim: it is the steepest descent among those I mention on this site.
The ten-participant limit changes the visit more than it seems. With ten people, you can all stand in front of the same painted wall without taking turns, hear others’ questions, and ask without raising your voice. Five languages are available: Italian, English, French, Spanish and German.
The rating is 4.8, but based on only nineteen reviews. It is a small site and has only recently been added to the platform: that number shows that those who visited were happy, not that it is a well-established rating like those of the most booked tours, which have thousands of reviews. The underground walk in the Rione Sanità district of Naples
Two hours, Italian only, with a local guide. The meeting point is at Via Porta San Gennaro 2, where the guide will be waiting with an operator’s sign. Then, Palazzo dello Spagnuolo for thirty minutes, with its hawk-wing staircase; the Ipogeo dei Cristallini for one hour; the Catacombs of San Gaudioso for one hour; return to Porta San Gennaro. The ticket includes entry to the Cristallini, the guide for both hours, and internal transport between stops. Food and drinks are not included.
The experience has no reviews published on the platform yet: it’s a new itinerary, not a rejected one.
